Carrageen is a perfect alternative to gelatin in desserts and as a thickening agent in soups and stews. It can be sprinkled over food before grilling. It can also be used to make a hot drink to ease coughs.

Can be added to soups or stews. Can be sprinkled over food before grilling. It can be brewed to make a drink traditionally used to help relieve coughs. To make this soak 25gm in cold water for 15 minutes, then strain and add to a pint of boiling water, with half a lemon, simmer for 15 minutes, strain, cool, allow to cool. You can add honey, sugar or lemon to your own taste. It can be stored in the fridge in a sealed container for up to one week. Wash carrageen for all dishes before use.
